Custom WordPress Website Design Overhaul

This site overhaul happened in stages and provided an increase of 435% in this business’s monthly sales average over 12 months!

The client came to me having spent $850 to have a WordPress site built for their new business. The site had been up for about 5 months and they were looking to increase sales. They agreed to a site audit and asked me to manage their Google Adwords & Bing Adcenter campaigns as well.

With some modifications to the WordPress website design and content as well as the PPC campaigns, I received the following message from the client within one week:

“We have already noticed an uptick in orders over the last week. We are getting more customer orders that have not reached out to us to request more information!! We are very pleased.”

Sales more than doubled over the next 7 months at which time they came back and asked me to completely redesign the website.

After a full site overhaul that included a new, mobile device responsive template, the response has been positive with the highest sales numbers yet for this business. The client reported a 435% increase in monthly sales over 12 months!

This project started with a website overhaul in the summer of 2015. The site overhaul was launched in August of 2015 and the business has seen sustained website visitor growth over the past three years. To strengthen business growth, a branding project was commissioned in the fall of 2016. This involved creating a new logo , updating the website, and creating a set of signage for the companies lots.

Custom WordPress Website Design & Zazzle Affiliate Link Site

The site overhaul was launched in July of 2016 and the results speak for themselves: an increase from no appreciable organic keyword traffic to approximately 5,000 hits/month within 10 months. General site traffic increased by approximately 600%.

This project was a case where the original site had been developed completely for the business owner with no thought to the site visitor/potential customer. As a result, the site was a complete failure, unable to gain any search engine ranking, and was essentially shunned by members of the heraldry community.

The solution had three important components:

1. To create an easily navigable, aesthetically pleasing, mobile responsive, content rich site, thereby providing an enjoyable research experience for the site visitor.

2. To provide a multitude of products for sale in a way that would be relevant to the user.

3. The affiliate links to the Zazzle site had to be successfully cloaked in such as way as to avoid search engine penalties.

As the user clicks on each coat of arms variation relating to their personal surname, the site instantly loads corresponding gift ideas interspersed with the research content. In the case of the “Smith” surname, that requires accessing over 900 images for the page. Average page load times for the site were under 2 seconds with the larger pages still coming in under 5 seconds – an exceptional achievement for an image-heavy website.
